Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the most streamed song within six months. The song is a blend of pop music and reggaeton did not just bring interest to reggaeton, but also attracted attention to Latin music more generally. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs which were Spanish predominantly, as well as four songs in the year 2016. The popularity of Despacito was at its highest in the year 2017. In 2020, 41 mostly Spanish songs will make the top 100. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 with a version in two languages. Soon, other artists collaborated with Reggaeton stars including Drake as well as Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma together with Medellin 2019 A few performers of reggaeton lamented the trend towards mainstream music in the year 2020. A new band, Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the growth and evolution of reggaeton. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music, and various other genres was a typical practice.
